Located at an elevation of 2,100 meters on the slopes of Mt. Hakuba Yarigatake, this remote mountain onsen takes over four hours to reach, whether hiking from Mt. Hakuba via the ridge trail or climbing up from Sarukura. Truly a "hot spring above the clouds."
The bath at Hakuba Yari Onsen Hut is fed by a natural hot spring source at 43.1°C, flowing directly from a massive rock fissure behind the hut.
With a flow rate of 760 liters per minute, it is said to have the highest natural hot spring output in Japan at this altitude.
The water is a bicarbonate spring containing sulfur, magnesium, and calcium. It is known for its strong sulfur scent and slightly silky texture.
The spring is believed to be effective for neuralgia, poor circulation, fatigue recovery, skin conditions, muscle pain, and frozen shoulder.
The bathing facilities include a mixed-gender open-air bath and a women-only indoor bath.
Please note that from 8:00 to 9:00 PM, the open-air bath becomes women-only, and men are asked to use the indoor bath during that time.
